Jesus on the 1st Holy Week: The Fig Tree

Did you know that Jesus withered a fig tree during the first Holy Week? Matt21

He saw that the tree had leaves but no fruit and He said,” Never again will you bare fruit!” and immediately the tree wither.

Astounded & amazed, the disciples asked, “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?”

Jesus answered, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” Matt21

WOW! What a message straight from the mouth of Jesus on the very first Holy Week. Many authors write of this event in the New Testament. That is to show us that many witnessed it. In fact thousands witnessed the miracles of Jesus! It is history, not fairy tales.

So why did Jesus do this on Holy Week. He never wasted His time? 1st it was the exact fulfillment of prophecy spoken by Jeremiah hundreds of years before. Jesus was the fulfillment of prophecies of the Old Testament.

2nd Jesus taught by powerful natural examples that would not be forgotten.
The lessons?

It is useless to not bear fruit when one has been designed to bear fruit. Our lives wither too when we give ourselves to uselessness. We miss our purpose. Through faith in Jesus and His Holy Spirit we bare the fruit in our lives we were born for!

The most important lesson…Believe in the power of your prayers IN JESUS name! He is the strength. Do not doubt! Just speak for Jesus! He delegated that power to us just days before He knew he would die!

Sacramentans will know the name of Frank Corti of Corti Brothers. Years ago he gave me the best business advice I ever received as a young entrepreneur. Frank said, “I tell my brother Gino, people think we are richer than we are, more powerful than we are, and smarter than we are. So I say,’Gino…YOU ACT LIKE IT!'” In business I have followed this advice to success for over 25 years.

Jesus during Holy week said almost the same thing to us. The difference is that through Him we really are richer, more powerful, and smarter! He is the source within us! Have confidence and claim it without doubting. That’s what He wanted to be sure of 2 days before He knew he would die on the cross. His power is delegated to believers. Handle with prayer!!
